Heads Up, ECCo SP Users: Artemis May Impact Your Workflow

With the Spring 2024 Release (ECP 4.14.0 and EDX 1.14.0), Apache Artemis has replaced Apache ActiveMQ.

This transition introduces updates to the installation and upgrade processes, along with changes to the high availability setup. These updates may require environment reconfiguration, resource reallocation, and adjustments to storage capacity.

We recommend reviewing the details via the link below to ensure a smooth transition if you are currently using ECP 4.12/EDX 1.13 or earlier versions.

DescriptionAppImpact TypeECCo SP ImpactUser ImpactPlanned for
Support LDAP properties related to the matching of the user roleECP, EDXAuthentication - LOWConfiguration extended with additional propertiesWith the extended configuration, updating the LDAP configuration for ECCo SP components may potentially be required.Spring 2025
ECCo SP Kubernetes containers should log to the console by default.ECP, EDXLogging - LOWLogs will be available in the consoleUsers may need to update their custom log scraping mechanisms, if applicable. This applies only if an external method has been implemented to send logs out of the container.Spring 2025
Discontinuation of Support for MSSQL 2019ECP, EDXCompatibility - HIGHMSSQL 2019 will no longer be tested or supported. The new version, SQL Server 2022, has been added.Users might need to upgrade MSSQL instancesSpring 2025
Automatic Broker Certificates RenewalECPSynchronization - HIGHBroker certificate will renew automatically. After the solution is implemented, there is a possibility that renewal may not function correctly when HA is used. Users must disable renewal jobs on slave nodes.Spring 2025

Update to Java 21ECP, EDXCompatibility - HIGHJava 17 will no longer be supported. ECCo SP will require Java 21, and Java must be updated as part of the application upgrade. If a user’s BA is deployed on the same server as ECCo SP, it may be necessary to update the BA as well. Alternatively, workarounds such as using multiple Java versions (e.g., java-alternatives) can be considered.Fall 2025
The backward-compatible cipher will be removed from pull messaging.EDXCompatibility - MEDIUMIt will not be possible to send and receive pull messages from EDX 1.11.0 or lower.Users must upgrade to at least EDX 1.12.0Fall 2025

All ECP synchronization jobs will be merged into one generic synchronization job.ECPSynchronization - LOWAll sync jobs will be mergedFor users with custom configurations, such as intentionally scheduling jobs at different times, merging the sync jobs may alter the behaviour.TBP
Remove the validations and transformations functionality from EDX.EDXEDX Routing - MEDIUMExternal processing, validations and transformations will not be supported by EDXUsers relying on external processing, validation, or transformation will need to find an alternative method for processing messages (e.g., implementing it directly in their BA), as ToolBox will no longer support this option.TBP
Enable all Spring Boot actuators by defaultECP, EDXMonitoring - LOWSince all Spring Boot endpoints will be enabled by default, potentially without authentication, this could pose security risks by exposing excessive information about the application and server.Users with higher security requirements may need to disable certain actuators after the upgrade.TBP
